Wrinkle Removal Q & A

What light treatments help with wrinkles?

Dr. Safko uses Thermage® treatments. The device focuses radiofrequency energy on the treatment areas to encourage your body to restore collagen, a building block of your skin. As you get older, your body can’t produce collagen fast enough to compensate for the speed at which it breaks down. Thermage combines heat energy -- to stimulate the deep layers of your skin -- with a cooling effect, which keeps the uppermost layers safe and comfortable.

How does Thermage work?

Dr. Safko will apply the energy using a soft-tipped wand. You’ll first feel a cooling effect, which protects the outermost layers of your skin. The wand also vibrates slightly to make the experience more comfortable. The radiofrequency then penetrates your skin tissue to stimulate collagen. You’ll feel a burst of cooling to finalize the process.

Thermage provides benefits you can’t get with creams and lotions.

What are the benefits of Thermage?

Rather than coming in for multiple treatments, Thermage delivers results in just one visit. It helps tighten sagging skin so that it feels springier and looks smoother. You’ll experience particular benefit near your eyes, where hooding and fine lines may occur. It’s also effective on your face in the lower region where you find loose jowls, sagging neck skin, and deep wrinkles. Thermage also has positive effects on your body, in places where sagging skin, bulges, and pockets of fat -- known as cellulite -- occur.

Everyone’s results are slightly different. Talk to Dr. Safko about what you can expect from a Thermage session.

Does it hurt?

Thermage treatments feature cooling effects and vibration to make the session as comfortable as possible. It’s noninvasive, meaning there’s no incisions or downtime after treatment. Thermage is clinically proved to be safe. You may see some redness right afterward, but you typically can resume normal activities immediately. The session lasts 45-90 minutes, depending on the area you’re having treated.

When will I see results?

Results are often visible immediately and continue to advance over the next few months. Even 6 months after your treatment, you may notice continued enhancement as your body restores its collagen production. Results can last for years.
