Juvederm Q & A

What is JUVÉDERM ?

JUVÉDERM is a form of hyaluronic acid made in a laboratory. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule naturally found in your skin. It’s an injectable solution used to plump fine lines and wrinkles, smooth folds, enhance your lips, and contour your cheeks. It contains no human or animal DNA and is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration. JUVÉDERM is one of the most respected and highly touted hyaluronic acid fillers on the market.

What can I expect from the filler?

You’ll notice a smoother, younger look almost immediately, and the results will continue to improve over the course of a couple days. Areas treated with JUVÉDERM naturally blend into your face and feel soft.

Who is a good candidate?

Men and women older than 21 can benefit from JUVÉDERM treatments. Prior to receiving JUVÉDERM, you’ll have a consultation at which you can talk to Dr. Safko about your desired results and any concerns you might have. He’ll guide you through the treatment that will give you the results you’re after. JUVÉDERM offers several different types of product, and Dr. Safko will help you understand which one is right for your needs.

You don’t need to undergo any allergy testing prior to receiving JUVÉDERM. JUVÉDERM is not appropriate for people who bruise easily or who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

How long do the results last?

Expect the positive effects of JUVÉDERM to last 4-6 months. You might experience a slightly longer or shorter duration, depending on your skin, the injection process, and where you have the treatment.

You’ll likely only need one treatment per area you want to smooth or plump.

Do JUVÉDERM treatments hurt?

JUVÉDERM is administered via injection, so you may experience a little discomfort. You’ll get a topical anesthetic to make the process more tolerable and to decrease the chance of bruising.

You may experience mild side effects, such as minor swelling, redness, or bruising following treatment. Most people can leave a treatment, reapply makeup, and go right on with their day afterward. Do avoid intense exercise for 24 hours following treatment.
